The Lorain Summer Market is back for its 17th year July 22-23 bringing vintage looks, lots of denim, music and the smells of a hot summer afternoon cookout to the Black River Landing in downtown Lorain.

Hosted by the nonprofit group Girls Give Back, the vintage summer market boasts vintage, handmade and homegrown items created by small businesses from all throughout Ohio.

One such business, That’s InVintage, owned by Lisa Fugate, brought their country wares all the way from Liberty Township for their second year at the market.

“We heard a lot of great feedback about this market, and knew we would be a good fit,” Fugate said. “So, we packed up some products and a tent and came last year.”

Fugate was so surprised by the successes of That’s InVintage, that she decided to return for a second year bringing even more items including authentic cowboy leather rhinestone boots good for any occasion from Friday night hoedowns to fashion fairs.

“I have always loved country and rhinestones and the fashion, and so I decided to open my shop,” she said. “We have a small boutique back in Liberty, but we also sell online and at traveling markets like this.”

The market also is playing host to those on the more foodie side of things.

Maggie Osborn, owner of Brighton Wool & Honey Co. from Grafton, returned for her fourth year at the market selling homegrown all organic honey and handmade organic laundry detergents.

“I grew up on a farm when I was little and decided to continue that into adulthood,” Osborn said.

While the family started small with honey from their bees and wool from their alpaca and sheep, Osborn said they eventually needed to branch out.

“Now besides our honey, which is all natural and organic, we also sell handmade soaps, reusable dryer balls and our new line of fresh laundry detergents,” she said.

Osborn, like many other vendors couldn’t be more pleased about the Summer Market’s new location of the Black River Landing.

“When I first started, we were in a much smaller location, which while fun, it felt cramped,” she said.

Osborn said she supported the Summer Market moving to three years ago to downtown Lorain.

“Its much bigger, brighter and much more beautiful,” she said.

The market runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 23, with122 vendors plus live entertainment and local food trucks available to guests.

The Summer Market is dog friendly to leashed pooches and many vendors provide fresh cold water in doggy bowls.

The event is sponsored this year by the Lorain Port Authority and supports nonprofits Myhouse and Blessing House.
